A member asked:

Will swallowing a little bit of mouth wash every night hurt my liver?

Maybe: I would not recommend you swallow any as the ingredients aren't there for consumption. Most mouthwashes contain alcohol but they may also contain other harmful ingredients if ingested regularly. Some contain Fluoride and you really wouldn't want to swallow that . As to your liver getting affected it really depends on your general health, what other meds you may take and what is in the mouthwash.

Possible: I would not make this a habit as many mouth washes are alcohol based. Mouth wash in general is not supposed to be swallowed. Also, your definition of a bit may be different from mine.

Possibly: It may well depend on the amount you are ingesting. But whatever it is you should avoid it. Mouthwashes are not meant to be ingested and the the effect on your system may be cumulative.

May be: Why would you want to swallow dirty solution anyway ? I am sure that if you swallowing alcohol containing mouth wash or other chemical that it may contain will have some effect on your liver, and other organs. It is the cumulative effects. If you interest in the natural mouth wash/ rinse please check out oregano oil. Just rinse your mouth out with water after you use the mouth wash.

Mouth wash: Mouth wash is intended to help keep you teeth and gums healthy, not intended to be swallowed. You should not intentionally swallow it. Rinse and spit, don't swallow. Talk to your dentist about other options to keep your mouth healthy. The long term effect of swallowing mouthwash is not welll known.
