Unpredictable: There are many different types of ovarian cancer. Stage IV means it is in the liver or outside the peritoneal cavity. Two types can still be cured most of the time no matter how advanced. Around 15% of women with other stage IV ovarian cancers are alive 5 years later. Good luck.

Ovarian cancer: Stage IV ovarian cancer means that the cancer has spread out of the abdomen (ie, lungs) or into an organ (ie, spleen or liver). If the patient is healthy enough and they undergo complete cytoreduction (debulking) by a gyn oncologist leaving no visible disease, and undergo intraperitoneal chemotherapy, 60+% can live 5 years. Unfortunately, even in the us, <1/2 of patients get proper care.
