Possible, but rare.: There are genetic conditions carried on the chromosomes that may have such a dramatic impact on the conception that all offsping of one gender or the other will miscarry. Thus, all children will be one sex only.

Rare: In theory, if a woman carries an sex chromosome disorder called "X linked recessive", she can give birth to normal females or females who carry the abnormal X, but cause significant defects or be lethal (abort) a male conceptus that did not have a normal X to cancel it's effect.
