A member asked:

Is there a certain age (say, 95 years) where getting surgery just isn't worth it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Function assesment: One must weigh the risk/benefit ratio when surgery, especially elective surgery is considered. The persons premorbid functional level is an important indicator of recovery and/or benefit from surgery or any other medical procedure(like chemotherapy). Your doctor should discuss this with you and discuss goals of care to see if surgery is the best option.
