Usually airborne: Proteases are a subgroup of proteins, which are most common cause of allergies. For example, mold allergies are caused by contact with proteases found in molds. Allergies to proteins that are proteases have been described for respiratory allergies. Whether an individual can develop an allergic reaction (respiratory) by ingesting a protease is possible but unlikely.
