How is it possible for the immune system know what is good and bad for the body?

Foreign molecules: The immune system looks for molecules that are not native to the territory for which they are invading. A virus in the respiratory tract, a toxic grain in the gut, an enviromental chemical in the skin and even pharmaceutical drugs are all examples of immune system stimulants.
