How is pneumonia transmitted?

Respiratory droplets: Pneumonia is spread from person to person via respiratory droplets released when a person coughs, sneezes, laughs, or talks. The bacteria can live in a person's throat without causing symptoms, so you can even get it from a person who doesn't look sick. Avoid the spread of germs by washing your hands regularly, covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough, and being cautious around sick people.

Droplets: A person with pneumonia coughs frequently & generates aerosols of small droplets in the air around them. These droplets contain infectious organisms from their lung & can be inhaled by others in their immediate vicinity (<3feet). People at extremes of age (young & old) are most susceptible. Therefore it is advised to cover your mouth & nose when coughing & avoid going to public places when sick.
