A member asked:

Is cardiomegaly a complication of pneumonia or the other way around?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cardiomegaly: This simply means enlargement of the heart and can be due to dozens of causes. Rarely pneumonias are accompanied by inflammation of the heart muscle which can result in cardiomegaly. Heart failure can result in fluid back up into the lungs which looks like pneumonia, and this can also predispose to secondary infection. There are also diseases which simultaneously attack both the heart and lungs.
