We don't know: Boys are more vulnerable than girls to many childhood mental disorders including ld, adhd, autism, speech and language delays, tourette disorder. Some have hypothesized it has to do with exposure to testoserone in the womb, but the why of that remains unclear, even if true. Equally mysterious is why girls tend to "catch up" in the teen years, though with different disorders.
