Smallpox: This vaccine was often given on a shoulder or thigh (if requested). It involved application of a liquid & through which multiple pin pricks were made. It would fester up & produce a scar over a week or so. Its use was limited after the mid 70's.Formal use among all but a few was stopped about 1978 when the world health organization declared it eradicated.
