By example: The best promotions cost no money. Kids already know what's good for them and what's not, and how not to be fat. The most effective examples are the gym teachers; they are also reality-oriented and will seldom support "pop" or "politically correct" diets that aren't scientific. My coachs' example still works for decades later.

Get them involved: Make it fun. Let them help. Cookie cutters and fun shapes. I also rationale with my children explaining the value of nutrition at a young age.

Good choices: Having good choices is the best way to promote good nutrition. This might mean getting rid of high fat foods like frankfurters. It might also mean eliminating sugar drinks as an option. Water is the best option- make it readily available. Show kids thru examples of what good nutrition is.

Healthy eating.: Have the school eliminate bad foods from the cafeteria and vending machines. Teach proper nutrition in class to encourage kids to make healthy choices when they're not in school.
