Improves clotting: A long time ago before we gave injections at birth of vit k, infants would have episodes of bleeding called hemorrhagic disease of the newborn. There were many fatalities. Since vit k is not present in sufficient quantities in breast & bottled milk, it is given to all infants at birth to improve clotting factors to prevent hemorrhaging.
