Electric heart signa: An ekg is a record of the electric impulses the heart gives off as it beats. Several leads are placed on the chest wall to measure the inpuses from different directions and from different parts of the heart. It is an easy and inexpensive way to look at heart activity and diagnose problems such as arrhythmias, heart attacks and conduction disorders. It is also used for routine health screening.
