A member asked:

How can you check a valproic acid trough?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Timing: A valproic acid trough level, which is what should be measured, needs to be drawn ten to twelve hours after the last dose. Btw-the therapeutic range for levels is 50-100 for seizures, but it is 75-125 for mood stabilization. Other labs which should be drawn with the level are a CBC (blood count), and ast/alt (liver enzymes).
