Can streptococcal infections be prevented?

Yes: Yes, but only by not being exposed or avoiding exposure. Good handwashing and staying away from people with strep are the only prevention measures that may work.

PracticeGood hygiene: Safe hygiene practices will reduce, but cannot prevent the risk of streptococcal infection. Streptococcus is a normal colonizing bacteria for all humans. Infection from any bacteria depends on host factors and many other variables that make total eradication close to impossible. Hand washing, isolation, cohorting, and sterile technique all reduce strep infections effectively
