Blood oxygen test.: An abg is a test that measures the oxygen tension, carbon dioxide, and acidity (ph) of blood taken from an artery. It is used to determine how well the blood is being oxygenated and how well gas exchange is occuring. This information is vital when caring for patients with critical illness or respiratory disease.
