To avoid ischemia: Allen test is done to ensure that dual arterial blood supply to the hand is intact. If both and radial and ulner arteries are not intact and if the remaining artery is damaged it could disable the hand, therefore allen test is essential to ensure adequate blood supply to the hand in case of injury to the artery from which blood may be drawn.
