Yes: Sepsis is a broad term used to describe infection than enters the bloodstream and causes low blood pressure, poor oxygenation and organ dysfunction. There are many causes of sepsis including bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Unfortunately some of these can be spread from patient to patient. Sometimes patients with sepsis must be kept in isolation in icus or wards.

Not exactly: The cause of sepsis can be spread from person to person - and depending on what the cause is the likelihood of sepsis or septic shock varies. (streptococcus pneumonae is likely to cause sepsis, for example).
