Yes: Sepsis is a broad term used to describe infection than enters the bloodstream and causes low blood pressure, poor oxygenation and organ dysfunction. There are many causes of sepsis including bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Unfortunately some of these can be spread from patient to patient. Sometimes patients with sepsis must be kept in isolation in icus or wards.
