Low oxygen...: If a patient has a decreased oxygen level in their blood, supplemental oxygen is prescribed to maintain the oxygen level in a more normal range. Oxygen is needed by all the vital organs so by maintaining the oxygen level at an appropriate level, morbidity and mortality rates are decreased. However, too much oxygen can also be harmful so it must be carefully prescribed.
