A member asked:

What is the treatment right after tonsilectomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pain meds: There is no specific treatment after a tonsillectomy. But you must keep well hydrated by drinking liquids and milkshakes high in protein and carbohydrate and very low in fat. It is very painful to swallow but you can even though it hurts. Pain meds, usually strong narcotics are almost always necessary for about 10 days. Eat small pieces of any foods, slowly, and add jello, yogurt and custard.
