Yes: Normal platelet count ranges from 150, 000 to 400, 000/ cu. Mm. When this count drops below 20, 000, petechiae (purplish red spots), bruises, gum or nose bleeding become noticeable.

YES: Bleeding can happen when platelet count is too low. Spontaneous bleeding can happen when the platelet is less than 5000-10, 000. Bleeding can happen anywhere including the head. Treatment for low platelet will depend on the cause of the trhombocytopenia. Platelet transfusion can be given -if there is no contraindication.
