Can be in some cases: Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) has many possible causes, but most are not inherited. Inherited types include wiskott-aldrich syndrome and the rare giant platelet disorders.

Thrombocytopenia...: Is the medical term for a low platelet count. The normal range is wide (150-400k). There are many causes, reflecting synthetic dysfunction, consumption, inappropriate destruction or a combination of these. Hereditary causes are rare but do occur (camt, was, bernard soullier syndrome, etc.). We can treat many causes with meds and/or transfusions. Congenital forms may require stem cell transplant.
