How long after a wrist fracture operation will my wrist return to normal?

3-6 months or more: After surgery, motion is usually restricted for about 6 weeks. Once range of motion is restored, strengthening can begin. Pain, stiffness, and weakness may persist for several months post-op. Increased activity may also lead to pain and swelling. Ice, elevation and nsaid's are good treatments for post-op symptoms. Occasionally, therapy is needed to achieve maximum improvement.

3-6 months: For most surgically treated wrist fractures, one begins to increase their activity level on a progressive basis beginning early in the recovery. However, the bone can take as much as 3 months to heal and then recovering strength, motion, coordination and endurance can take longer.
