How much does a wrist fracture surgery hurt?

Variable: Pain after any fracture depends on factors such as swelling around the fracture ; if the fracture is stable and whether the fragments move. A well fixed fracture can become painfree in a short peiod of time even though it will take the time needed for it to heal.

Depends: Pain is totally subjective. I've had a few patients describe their pain to be the worst pain in the world, while others have had very little pain in comparison. Most patients seem to tolerate postoperative pain very well. Expect a gradual decrease in intensity over a 3-7 day period.

Variable: The pain after surgery depends on many factors including the patient's own capacity to deal with pain. Most surgeons will have a comprehensive plan for addressing post operative pain including: ice, immobilization and pain medications.
