Iron deficiency: There are many types of anemia caused by many types of disorders. Red blood cells require iron in order to develop properly. Without iron, we do not produce adequate numbers of cells which results in anemia. Iron deficiency needs to be explained always and requires an examination and further testing. Simply replacing iron without an investigation and or examination can result in missed diseases.

Many anemia causes: Anemia simply means a red cell mass outside normative values for age/sex. There are many causes, both acquired (eg., fe or folate (folic acid) deficiency, marrow infiltration, etc.) and constitutional (eg., hemoglobin disorders, red cell membrane disorders, enzymopathies, etc.). Fe. Deficiency is overwhelmingly the most common cause of anemia in the us. Your doctor can help sort out possible causes.
