GABA: gamma amino…: Butyric acid is the major fast inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Gaba receptors are also the ones to which valium & other benzodiazepine anxiolytics bind to calm one's anxiety. Studies are showing that beneficial lactobacilli in the gut can interact with the brain via the vagus nerve. Mice fed lactobacilli had changes in brain GABA receptors. This link may have future in psychiatric tx.
