A member asked:

Since gaba is the major inhibitory transmitter, if large amounts are introduced to the brain, can it produce anxiolosis and eventually coma?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Theoretically.: The benzodiazepine class of drugs, which includes medications like valium and xanax, (alprazolam) is an analog of gaba. As such, these medications are used as an anxiolytic. Excessive dosing can also induce coma.
