Not the same: Muscular dystrophies are inherited disorders where there is weakness and wasting of muscles due to problems with various muscle proteins. Dystonias are disorders of the brain (genetic or acquired) which cause sustained muscle contractions that lead to abnormal postures or abnormal function in the areas affected..
