What could reduce your blood hemoglobin?

Many possibilities: Low hemoglobin, or anemia, has many possible causes ranging from blood loss to vitamin deficiencies to autoimmune diseases. Diagnosis requires a visit to the doctor and some basic blood work.

Any cause of anemia: Normal HGB ranges about 12-16 (higher end in males). A significant reduction is called 'anemia'. There r numerous causes: genetic types (thalassemia), blood loss (intestinal bleeding, very heavy periods), low bone marrow production of red blood cells, lack of certain nutrients needed by bone marrow to make rbc's (iron, b12, folic acid). If u r anemic, see your primary doc and have it checked out.
