Yes: Any repetitive motion (especially motions with that strain the tendons in the wrist - within the "carpal" tunnel) can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.

Unlikely: There is no evidence that hand use causes carpal tunnel syndrome. It is caused by pressure on the median nerve at the wrist and we do not know what causes the swelling. It is most common in women of middle age who are overweight.
