Yes: The aortic valve and the mitral valve are two completely different valves. Whereas bicuspid aortic valve surgery usually requires replacement, the preferred approach to mitral valve surgery, unless for severe stenosis or severe mitral regurgitation in a minority of instances, is mitral valve repair. A very experienced opinion is often required.
