A member asked:

How can hydroquinone turn skin darker and cause hyperpigmentation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Exogenous ochronosis: Higher strengths and persistent, sustained use of hydroquinone (eg 6 months or more) especially in darker skin types are risk factors for exogenous ochronosis. This results in brownish-yellow pigmented globules in the skin's collagen layers. Prevention is key by avoiding excessive use!
