A member asked:

How long does post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation take to fade? i have it on my face due to a lactic acid peel. hydroquinone 4% hasn't worked for me.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Several months: Hydroquinone only works in the superficial layers of the epidermis and the hyperpigmentation is due to the melanin producing cells in the skin. Once the inflammation disappears it can take several months fot the discoloration to disappear and specially around the ankles it might also has a co ponent of vascular insufficiency
