Depending on which : It tends on which bone is fractured. And how bad the fracture is. Sometimes you wear a special cast shoe and sometimes you need a cast.

Several things: If the fracture is not out of alignment a cam walking boot or cast can be applied. If there is deformity and poor bone alignment, then surgery is indicated to re-align and fixate the bone in proper position. A cast would usually be applied after surgery.
