Varies, average 12yo: The start of cycles is called menarche.Girls experience menarche at different ages. Factors such as race, stress, diet, genetics and weight (bmi) are all factors involved. The average age of menarche is about 12.5 years in the usa. If no cycle beyond 16 years of age, the delay is referred to as primary amenorrhea. This requires an evaluation of anatomy as well as hormonal blood tests.

Depends: Abnormally prolonged bleeding can be indicative of many medical conditions including non-obstetric/gynecologic conditions. Menorrhagia, missed abortion etc can account for prolonged bleeding. See a obgyn doctor to identify the cause behind your prolonged bleeding.

Many things.: Not ovulating during every cycle can cause irregular periods. This is is common in teens as their systems mature, but may also occur in adults. Excessive exercise, stress & eating disorders can also throw periods off, as well as polycystic ovarian syndrome, ovarian or adrenal tumors, thyroid dysfunction, or too much prolactin. Spotting between periods is commonly caused by infection.

I have really bad cramps before and during mu minstral cycle .What will help it?

Dr. Jennifer Redd answered

Start with NSAIDS: Cramps prior to starting your period are quite common. There are many treatment options available from simply taking over the counter acetomenophen, Naproxen or Ibuprofen to treatment prescribed by your physician. Also using a heating pad may help .If the over the counter pain medications do not help, i would recomend scheduling an appointment with your physician to try other options.

11 to 13 years old: Menarche usually occurs between ages 11 & 13 in the us. However for some their period could start as early as age 9 & for others not until 16. Before you have a period, you will have noticed breast development, pubic hair & white to yellowish vaginal discharge. Before the first period a girl may feel bloated, develop cramps in legs or abdomen & feel moody (depressed or anxious).
