A member asked:

Are both medications in cardec for allergies?

3 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes: Cardec contained an antihistamine and a decongestant, both of which might be helpful for allergies in slightly different ways. However, cardec was pulled from the market in march 2011 by the fda and should no longer be available.

Yes but think twice: Cardec contains chlorpheniramine which is an antihistamine kind of like benadryl (diphenhydramine). It has been around a long time. The other ingredient is phenylephrine which is a decongestant designed to help with nasal congestion. It has unwanted side effects such as dry mouth and decrease appetite, among others with multiple drug interactions. The best treatment for allergies is nasal steroid sprays.
