Failure detection: Pacemakers are electronic devices using batteries that eventually wear out. Also the pacing wires that deliver the signal that controls the heart can be compromised by scarring or dislodgement. All of these issues plus more can be detected noninvasively and even remotely by telephone transmissions. Absolutely need to be followed regularly by a pacemaker clinic.
