Definition: Idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura is doctor talk for bruising due to low platelets of unknown cause. Itp can become a very serious disease if untreated and platelet counts fall to very low levels. The greatest risk in bleeding into the brain resulting in stroke. Fortunately excellent medical treatment is available.
