Candida: This yeast which is present in the normal GI tract can produce a variety of infections when the predisposing factors are present. Among these are thrush (mouth overgrowth) in children, immune suppressed individuals, and diabetics and patients getting antibiotics. Can also cause vaginal infections and skin eruptions and rarely becomes systemic.
