How does anti-ige treatment work?

By reducing IgE: Ige is the 'allergy antibody', it mediates allergic reaction. Without ige, allergies as we know them would not occur (other kinds of 'allerg'y might still occur). The anti-ige preparation reduces the free ige that is needed to produce allergic reactions. The efficacy of anti-ige is limited by its distribution in the body.

Decoupling: Allergic illness occur when allergens activate mast cells releasing biochemicals. Allergens interact with mast cells through ige antibodies attached to mast cell receptors. Each ige antibody is specific for an allergen. Ige lasts for months but ultimately degrades & must be replaced. Anti-ige blocks the replacement process. Mast cells become denuded of ige & can no longer respond to allergens.
