How can you get rid of varicose veins on your legs?

15 doctors weighed in across 5 answers

Treatment can vary..: While compression stockings can be used to help relieve the symptoms of varicose veins, the elimination of one's varicose veins themselves may potentially involve the following: laser or radiofrequency ablation, phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy, or a combination of these. A vein specialist/phlebologist can help you with treatment decisions which are based on the findings of a venous ultrasound exam.

A process: First, you need a venous ultrasound to help determine the source of your trouble and the best treatment course. If your underlying veins are amenable to treatment with endovenous thermal ablation (laser or rf), that is done first. Then your visible varicose veins are treated by phlebectomy or sclerotherapy.

Start with a consult: There are a variety of treatments available. The exact treatment plan will depend on the pattern of disease present. Start with a consultation with a phlebologist, interventional radiologist, or vascular surgeon who is committed to treating vein disease. Evaluation will include a history and physical examination and an ultrasound examination, which should be done with the patient standing.

See vascular surgeon: See a vascular surgeon to discuss your options, as they are they are the most highly trained vein specialists & can offer you all the treatment options. To determine best option, u will first need a venous reflux ultrasound. Possible therapies include endovenous thermal ablation, sclerotherapy, phlebectomy, and incompetent vein ligations. Most options are minimally invasive & done in MD's office.

Veins: Firstly need to determine source A venous Doppler sonogram will determine the source,if you have reflux then thermal ablation would be advised If no reflux then sclerotherapy would be a good choice
