Primary: Syphilis has three phases. Primary, secondary and tertiary and each is quite different in its presentation. Primary syphilis usually shows what is termed a hard chancre. This is a skin ulcer with raised edges and a firm non-tender center. It can appear anywhere the organism entered your body, usually on the genetalia or the mucous membranes of the mouth (tongue is not uncommon).
