For renal,OB&pelvic: If you are having a pelvic, OB or renal ultrasound patients are typically asked to have a full bladder for the first (or transabdominal) portion of the exam. If an endovaginal exam is also ordered you will be asked to empty your bladder after the transabdominal exam. The full bladder helps ultrasound waves travel through the body providing a "window" to better see pelvic structures.
