As soon as healed: Tonsillectomy is done when tonsils are enlarged and cause obstruction and infection in the throat. Often times enlarged tonsils cause bad breath too. Surgery is done to remove them and prevent repeated problems. Bad breath is caused by a large number of bacteria in the mouth, especially in infected tonsils decreases as soon as tissues start to heal after tonsillectomy.
