Outpatient or 1 nite: Usually small incision under local anesthesia, pacing leads put in position under x-ray guidance, small generator box placed into surgically created pocket under skin, check function, close incision. Voila! no big deal, 50, 000 mile warranty (kidding), but good for 7-10 years or so, depending on use.

It's quick: When you come to the lab, out give you some Lidocaine in your skin which stings and burns for a moment. After that, you'll feel some pressure and pulling as we make a space for the pacemaker. There will be a little bit of pressure as we put in the sheaths to attach wires to the heart. You may feel your heart race as we test the wires, and after a few stitches, it will all be over.
