As long as it takes!: Acid reflux tends to be a chronic problem. I typically recommend patients continue with treatment as long as their symptoms persist. There are some downsides to treatment which can include malabsorption of calcium so over treatment is possible.

Hard to say: If your heartburn symptoms are infrequent and episodic, then likely no. If you have chronic symptoms however i.e. 3 or more attacks of reflux a week, then you may need to remain on maintenance therapy. Ask your doctor to be sure.

Hello , I had GERD almost since 10 years I did all tests endoscopy and so on and took different medication ,never cured but Pariet 20 mg is working wonders for me since last 3 years . my question is it okay to take it for long ?
Are there any other medications normally prescribed with PPIs for GERD? Can you just take the PPI only?
Can GERD that was not treated for 1.5 months with ppi's actually cause barrett's? Or would it take longer to develop and can on ppi's?
