Most feel better: Success rate defined as no longer suffering from major depression after aggressive antidepressant treatment is about 65-75%. Going beyond medication to psychotherapy, tms, ect, vns adds at least another 20-30%. It is extremely rare to have persisting severe depression after going through all available treatments. Preventing recurrence is hard, generally requiring maintenance of treatment.
