Immobilize: A foot cast is used to immobilize a injured area on the foot to keep it from moving and give it a chance to heal. A example of this would be a stress fractue of the metatarsal bone.

Couple of reasons: Casts are often used for immobilization of bones after a fracture, injury or severe sprain.
