No quick answer: A mild grade 1 lcl tear will heal in 2-3 weeks. A grade 2-3 tear may require a cast or brace for up to 6 weeks to allow healing if an injury occurs, unfortunately it takes time to heal prior to return to sports.

Hinged knee brace: Getting an appropriate knee brace with a hinge on the medial and lateral sides will help. It will let you flex and extend at the knee but gives rotational stability to allow the lcl to scar down and heal faster. I would check with a doctor or a physical therapist to get one.

Ice.: Ice the area 20 minutes at a time, 3-4 times per day. Usually physical therapy will help speed up your recovery.
