Rethink: More importantly, make sure you undestand the potential complications of not fixing the tendons. Some are vital for foot function and you don't want to "cripple" yourself. There are some that if torn, may not make so much of a difference. Just, make sure your doctor explains this all to you. "copping out" implies you are afraid, just make the decision for the right reasons.

Partial or full tear: The degree of recovery totally depends on the degree of tear in the tendon. If the there is a full tear, the tendon will eventually repair itself but you may be left with muscle weakness and pain in the area.
